Planter og prydbusker i Hellas

Grekerne er flinke til å plante mange fine planter rundt husene sine. Typisk gresk må vel være alle plantene som plantes i gamle olivenkanner og som står i gaten foran husene. Mange planter som vi i Norge har som små potteplanter finnes her som store frittvoksende busker ute i hagen. Plantenavn er ikke vår sterke side, kan noen hjelpe med navn på dem vi ikke har fått navngitt.

5. februar 2000 fikk jeg følgende e-post fra Shirley McDaniel, US med denne informasjonen:

The flower in the photo next to the hibiscus has various names: the French call it belle de nuit; Americans call it four o'clocks, and it is from the nicotiana family -- it blooms late in the afternoon (hence the name four o'clocks), has a wonderful aroma and a variety of colors, ranging from bright yellow to magenta, sometimes even striped between the two. It is an annual but seeds itself easily and spreads wonderfully.

Hi Jan again,

The flower just above the hibiscus and belle de nuit (which I identified too) is a trumpet vine. Although I don't know the latin name, it is a sturdy climbing vine which is prolific and blooms all summer. Further down the page, there is a photo labeled "close up of the?" -- this is a bougainvillea; it comes in a variety of colors and sizes ranging from creamy white to deep magenta, dark and pale orange, true red, dark purple, light yellow; this shade of magenta is particularly popular and beautiful. Both of these climbing plants are seen all over Greece and bloom constantly during the summer, living on scant amounts of water.
