Short stops along the road

When you drive 1700 km round the Peloponnese during 10 days, there's bound to be some short stops along the road to stretch your legs and the like. more than once we found something exciting during these stops. Most often it was something to do with the natural landscapes, like beautiful flowers, butterflies or little creepy-crawlies. All in all, when we took time off to stop looked around, there was almost always something exciting to see. These little things more than often took more time than we had thought from the start. I and Inge ran around with our cameras and Anne Grete picked another posy of flowers. Here's some mementoes from these short stops.

The posy of flowers doesn't have to be se big to be nice.

First a small excerpt from our travel diary from Day 9 and 10 (Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April 2000):

When we got back to Diakoftó around 19:15, we carried on towards Kórintos and then to the sea-side resort of Lautráki. There we found an OK hotel where we spent the night. This morning we went back to the Corinth canal to take some more photos before heading into Athens and then Piraeus, where we caught a ferry to Paros and on to our beloved Antiparos.

The standard photo from the Corinth canal. Even if this is a standard shot, it's well worth the time to see the canal from one of the bridges crossing it. It is quite impressive to experience what was built here over a hundred years ago. The Corinth canal was opened in 1893.

The trees that would later bear fruit were all in flower

What no doubt is the most prominent impression from the farmed areas at this time of the year is the amount of ripe oranges and lemons and other members of the citrus fruit family. Here we stumbled over recently planted orange grove where the trees hadn't grown too big yet, still leaving some room for poppies and other colourful flowers.

This is just a shot of the greenery along the side of the road. We just pointed the camera towards our feet and this was what we found.

Finally a photo of some of the local fauna, here represented by two Greek sheep.

Inge found this little chap. Luckily it sat quietly in sun warming itself for us to get the camera out.
