A round trip at Peloponnesus |
|
Welcome to the travelogue from our trip around major parts of Peloponnesus spring 2000. This is a travelogue from the family Bergtun’s trip to Peloponnesus in Greece in the period 14th to 23rd of April 2000 (which is our Easter holiday in Norway). During this trip we visited the following sites which we have made WebPages of: |

As text in these WebPages we have mainly chose to use the text from the travelogues we put into the Question-tips column during the trip. We have mainly kept it like we wrote it to keep the moods/impressions, as we experienced them there and then. We have only corrected the information were we have spelled names wrongly and changed the grammar into present. On some of the next 14 pages we have added a little bit more information about the actual place we visited. We have spiced up the texture with a lot of pictures taken during the trip (together over a 110 pictures divided on 15 pages). Unfortunately it can take some time to download them, this time we have decided to make the pictures a little bit larger than usual (the picture size ratio is 55kb), but we have tried to put them in with variation between the texture so you can read the text while waiting for the pictures to download. We hope you have the patience to wait for the pictures, as we believe they are worth waiting for! These pages will unfortunately not be updated since they are a journey-reportage, but hopefully they will give valuable information of what you can experience on a roundtrip at the Peloponnesus during springtime. |

What really fascinated us during this trip was all the flora and wildlife we experienced. Picture taken from Upper Monemvasia. First a little background from this trip. The idea behind this trip started over a year earlier, during Easter 1999. When I (Jan) and my neighbour Steinar went on a 12 days roundtrip in Greece. We first stopped on the island Antiparos and followed the national day there on the 25th of March, it was a fantastic experience, After a couple of days we returned to Athens where we watched the European championship qualifying-match between Greece and Norway at the Olympic stadium, a match Norway won. (This match was the reason why we originally went on this guy-trip to Greece.) |

Flower field from the antique of Olympia Easter 1999. After the soccer-match we rented a car and went for an 8-days roundtrip in major parts of mainland Greece. It was at the end of this trip we stopped at the Peloponnesus. We actually stayed there for 3 days, but we only got to see Olympia, when I got ill and had to stay at the hotel for the rest of this journey. But this little insight of what Peloponnesus can offer was more than enough for me to decide that I would like to come back and preferably during springtime with my family. Because without any doubts this was where we experienced the "greenest" spot in Greece during this guy-trip. The flora here was incredible, especially at the old Olympia. I have never seen such a splendid flourishing area and when you have a wife that love flower fields, yes then I would love to shear this experience with her. Luckily we made it already this year. Friday the 14th of April 2000 5am we were ready to departure from our home in Sandnes, Norway. We arrived at the airport in Athens around 2.30pm local time. We rented a small Toyota Yaris for the next 9 days. After a short debrief of how we should drive through Athens to find the main road for Peloponnese we could start our trip. We have luckily been driving in Athens before, so we have getting used to the Greek way of driving. We found the main road for Peloponnese more or less without any problems. Well this was just a little introduction about the cause and the beginning of this journey, if you want to read more it is just to continue on the next web page. |
