Skopelos is a stunningly beautiful and verdant island, possibly even more so than Skiathos. Although not quite as numerous as on Skiathos, many of the beaches of Skopelos are longer, with trees and vegetation reaching even further down towards the beach.

The first time I visited the island I was struck by all the lovely scents. I traversed the island on motorbike, a delightful experience for the eyes as well as for the nose. The intense smell of pinetrees as one rode though the forests, the fresh and salty air as the road passed close to the sea, and naturally the numerous delightful although hard to pinpoint scents when riding though agricultural areas.

Skopelos is a calm and peaceful island. It is a great place for those who appreciate a quiet yet culinary diverse vacation. The best place to sample the island's cuisine as well as it's tranquil atmosphere is definitely in the  largest town on the island, appropriately named Skopelos. An added extra is the town's stunningly beautiful location on a fairly steep hillside, reaching up from the harbour and town beach.

The number of villages on the island is quite small; outside of the capital only scattered groups of houses are to be found. However, in the northernmost part of the island you will find the nice little village of Glossa.
