Lefkas is a small mountain village in the island of Paros. It is situated rather in the middle of the island and is definitely worth a visit; in fact I would say a visit should be compulsory. This is a typical Cycladic village, rather unaffected by tourism. Regretfully we are unable to say much about the town itself and its history, on the other hand this is not necessary. Lefkas is first and foremost a village to be experienced and enjoyed with the bare eye. Therefore I have included some photos from the city that will hopefully tempt everyone to a stopover in this village when visiting Paros.

View of Lekas town from the large church.

Lefkas also has what often amazes us when we stroll the Greek islands, namely a big church in rather a small village. To us it seems the church is much larger and more majestic than the size of the village should indicate. But since this is common in a lot of places, really it is we who should reconsider our picture of how things should appear. Anyway one here finds a really beautiful church with two characteristic towers, and a wonderful entrance wall with large arches.

The main church, a really big and beautiful church.

Another photo taken from the church. This is the landscape surrounding the town. Notice the green landscape on May 20th 1998, when the photo was taken. The photo above (the one with the church) is taken on June 20th 1997; the landscape behind the church was much drier and more burnt at that time.

Below some photos taken in the city centre.

Flowers and beautiful plants are numerous. Here, Inge and my mother-in-law, Lilly, are posing in the middle of an ocean of flowers.
