The first impression of Naxos is one of numerous flowers along the roadside and up in the mountains. We´re so used to the islands of the Cyclades being dry and burnt, that the beautiful and colorful display of flowers are both unexpected and refreshing to the eye. Many species can be found on Naxos, even towards the end of June. Although the lowlands can be dry, there are always plenty of flowers blooming in the mountains. An especially beautiful sight is the flourishing broom that covers the mountainsides with a bright yellow carpet. It is really incredible!

This is what the broom looks like.

But you can find more than broom here. There are also lots of little wild flowerplants as well.

For instance poppy and thistle. The color is so sharp and bright.

Does anybody know the name of this plant?

Look what picking some of them + some other wild flowers can make, a fantastic bouquet!

In early summer you should get up in the mountains, and stop for to enjoy the vegetation.
