Agia Anna

Agia Anna is a little place six kilometres south of Naxos City. A number of new apartment complexes have been built here during the last few years. But why live so far away from Naxos City? Agia Anna is a place with many good qualities. However, whether you like it or not will depend on yourself. Lets look at my arguments first. Firstly this is a small quiet place. A lot of apartments have been built in recent years but they are spread out. And it is still easy to find nice, cosy and quiet accommodation. Agia Anna is also home to two beautiful beaches with higher standards than that of Naxos City beach. These two beaches are approximately 300 metres long and are both reasonably well protected against winds from the north. However, the sea can get a bit rocky at times.

The beach as seen from the north. The square of Agia Anna is located at the opposite end of the beach. The road runs between the beach and the houses. Luckily, there is not much traffic on this road.

Agia Anna is also home to a number of little taverns. There are also several supermarkets. Overall, Agia Anna is a good place to be if partying is not the number one priority. But if partying is the number one priority three are good bus connections to Naxos City. Busses leave at least once every hour. The first buss departs at approximately 8:00 am. When the last buss departs varies with the different seasons. When we were there in the middle of June the last bus departed at 20:00 pm. In July and August they depart until midnight. We had to get a taxi back at nighttime which cost 6€. The bus was only 0,45€ (prices from the summer of 1997). During the day there is also little boats which runs between Agia Anna and Naxos City. If you have the opportunity to chose where you one to stay, it is recommended to chose somewhere a bit off the main road. Accommodation alongside the main road can be a bit noisy.

One of the many supermarkets there is in Agia Anna. The selection is not very good, but you can get the most necessary items.

Here is the beach again. This time however the beach has been photographed early in the morning and the photo is of the beach when looking north.

We lived in a new apartment in an apartment complex called Sea View. It is owned by two brothers who also live there. The wife of one of them loves and enjoys working with flowers.

We have stayed here several times and have been very happy with the service. The apartments are away from the road so it’s quiet and peaceful. But at the same time it is only 100 metres to the beach.
