Soros

On the south-east side of Antiparos is a small place called Soros. Here there is a long, beautiful beach and hardly any tourists, especially in June and September, when you can more or less have the beach to yourself. This is , in our opinion, one of the longest and best beaches on the island. There is a lot of sand of good quality, fortunately not as fine grained as usual. Here each grain is between 1 and 2 millimetre. The water gets deep quite quickly, but still very good for swimming. The only octopus we have seen in Greece was spotted here, but we didn't manage to get a picture of it.

This is a area with a lot of summerhouses and more are under construction. Several Norwegians have houses here. There is a very international community, consisting until now, besides Norwegians, of Greeks, French, English, German, Swiss, Italian, Austrian and Swedish. Norwegian Vicky (Greek for Vigdis) lives here all the year round. She rents her house out in the summer. She also acts as an agent for all the rooms/flats/hotels and houses to rent in Antiparos and she also know about land and houses for sale. There is a small family tavern run by Kostas and Maria and their kids and dogs and cats and goats. (Kostas is also a farmer) The place is spotlessly clean and they serve good family cooking. They also have 6 small self-contained studio flats, each with bathroom, fridge, sink and hotplate. Each flat has 2 or 3 beds. The rooms are only a couple of hundred metres from the beach.

This is the perfect place for people who want a really peaceful holiday. It is often full in high season, but in June/July and September/October there are only a few guests who tend to return every year.

Continuing a small, in places quite bad road south from Soros Beach, you will get to Faneromeni. On the way you will pass several beaches, mostly empty of people. At Faneromeni there is a church, and a couple of beautiful coves facing south, where you can be completely alone.
