AEGEO INN
Rooms for rent
Norsk utgave (Norwegian edition) ![]()
AEGEO INN is an example of the great places you can find to stay, as long as you take time to search. The reason you have to look for the AEGEO INN, is that it is not situated at the port. It is natural to start looking at the port, as this where the boats docks. When I found the place the first time, Anne Grete and Inge (my wife and son) sat themselves down at a tavern and looked after the rucksack, while I went to search for a place. I must have looked at 5-6 places that day, but I was newer in any doubt where it would suit us to stay.

AEGEO INN the summer of 1997
The reasons we chose AEGEO INN are several. First of all it is situated only a "short" distance from the beach, the centre and the port. In addition, it lies on a very quiet nice street with few houses, hotels and restaurants. What I especially liked was the fact it was almost brand new (build in the 1990s) and completely clean (the bathroom was a sight for sore eyes, spotlessly clean with new fittings and tiled floor and walls) and the price was reasonable.

This is a typical Greek "room", but only AEGEO INN has soft toys on the bed (like it was the summer of -97)
The place consists one 2-storey buildings with 14 twin-bedded rooms (1996), but some of them can take one extra bed, all with private bathroom with basin, loo and shower. On the ground floor is a large fridge for use of all guests. Here we put what we wish to keep cold, mostly drinks and stuff for breakfast we usually have on the balcony. At the "reception" you can buy cold drinks and coffee. It is really rather strange that this place only has the status of "rooms", as opposite there is a small hotel, where I can see no difference in standard, compared to AEGEO INN. The only difference is the price, as it is a little cheaper to stay at AEGEO INN.

The summer of 1997 the price at the beginning of June was 2000dr per bed per night. At the end of June it was 2500dr and only in July did it go up to 3000dr. Later in the month it go up to 4000dr. The most expensive was the first weeks of August, when you have to pay 5500dr for exactly the same bed. Prices fall quickly after this, already around 20 august coming down to 4000dr, falling to 2000dr towards the end of September. These variations throughout the season. (But remember this was the 1997 prises.)
with the passing of time we have also discovered that the people who own and run the place (and who live there) are very nice. They comprise a young married couple Yiannis (on the card translated as John) and Kristina with their young doughtier Maria (born May 1994) Maria is without the resident charmer. In the winter Yiannis is a fisherman, and in the summer he spends a lot of time in Paros, catching customers for his rooms. He must be good at it, because the place is usually full. Also, many guests come back year after year, because they are so happy at Kristina and Yiannis'. Kristina is the one who has the daily task of keeping the place nice and clean. She visits every room every day, making the beds and generally tidying up, so that it is nice and tidy when we return from the beach. Not everyone who rents rooms does that.

During the winter 96/97, Yiannis extended the place a bit. He has now converted one of the rooms to a 4bed flat and onto a 2/3-bed studio. This means that one of the rooms on the ground floor has got a kitchen unit with sink, fridge and hot plate and some kitchen equipment. This room which was the biggest on the ground floor, has become what is called a studio and still has 2/3 beds.

Anne Grete and Rangnhild had "club" meetings with Kristina every afternoon, with the usual coffee, gossip and some sewing.
On the first floor Yiannis has closed a wall at the end of one corridor, gaining an extra room. here he has put in the same kitchen unit as on the ground floor, still finding room for a double bed and a small table. Then he opened up a hole in the wall to the room next door, making a 4-bed flat consisting of 2 separate rooms. The price for these 2 flats is a bit higher than normal rooms, but unfortunately I don't know how much. He has also put in fridge's in some of the rooms, especially on the first floor. This is beginning to be quite common also other places.
