This is of course a question with no single answer. But I will still give myself the freedom of providing important aspects when choosing your destinations.

It is not of great importance to plan your trip in details. It is better to put your mind in a state of openness and impulsiveness because this is what Island Strolling is all about. This should be your attitude all up until departure time when you have a plane to catch. Despite this introduction, a little bit of planning is still important, especially your knowledge of the islands. Your should also know your first island destination. All the Greece Islands have their individual charm, and which you choose can depend on the following factors:

What means most, a Island with/who is;

The list can be made much longer. The important point is that you find out what your interests are and make the trip exciting for yourself. When you preferences are clear, you need lots of information to find the Island/Islands that best make your combination of wishes come true. You will find lots of information on the Internet (look at my link page). Hopefully this homepage will also provide you with useful tips.

On Naxos you can find the oldest church is Greece.

Based on what you find you select the island that sounds the most tempting. Go to this destination first but provide yourself with a few loose plans to visit other islands. Again, be open for suggestions and changes. There is a guaranty that you will meet other Island strollers and they are usually more than willing to give you their advises. Talk to the hosts where you stay, ask them to recommend places to see and go there. If these places not turn out to be in your taste, just continue wherever you want to go.

In general terms I believe it is correct to state that most of the island presented in the travelling agencies brochures falls into the category touristy with plenty of opportunities for a good party. But, you will also find quite spots. Take the bus away from the centre of the cities and your will certainly find a more peaceful place.

You can find many caves like this at the Kolymbithres (in the Naoussa-bay) at Paros.

Again, there are no single answer to these two questions. On our trip we have for instance arrived at an island in the morning and left later the very same day. A first time traveller often like to see as much as possible. This is of course OK but you don't get to know the individual Islands very well. Who cares, usually the "Greece flame" inside you has been lit and you will comeback time after time.

Our first trip to the Greece Islands was in 1982. We travelled Athens - Paros - Samos - Patmos - Rhodes - Crete-Athens. This was a 3-week trip with lots of travelling and many hours onboard the ferries. We will never forget this trip. Everything was new and exciting and we experienced so much. Later we have visited many Islands ,but also stayed a whole vacation at one single island (Antiparos).

To conclude, get as much information as possible, choose a starting point and be impulsive during the journey. Try to provide a good mood, travel with a open mind and look for the positive solutions.
