Sunscreen is extremely important no matter when you travel during summer. The sun is very intense in the period from 1st of May - 1st of September. Use a high sunscreen factor, at least factor 20. Buy a well known brand name, look for those made for children and if it is extra water resistant that is a plus. Remember the children are playing in and by the sea all the time. Continue to use the high factor all through you holiday.

Yoghurt natural has a soothing effect.

Your tan is probably less than if you use a lower factor but it will last longer. Apply the cream several times a day.

It is probably OK that the grown ups are "gambling" with their skin but do not do this to the children. The younger they are the higher factor should be applied. There are plenty of good sunscreen in Greece but be aware of the fact that the bottles often are placed in the sun and that it is often hard to tell how old it is. The exceptions from this are at the chemists or at the shops selling perfumes. Be also sure that the chemist has heard your questions before concerning for instance sun burn, stomach problems or reactions from mosquito stings. The service is excellent.

TIPS:

Apply lots of sunscreen to your nose, ears, shoulders, back, behind your knees and on the wrist. These are areas that are easy to forget. If you have forgotten a spot and the sunburn is there, apply yoghurt natural. It has a soothing and cooling effect. Let it be on until it dries and sprinkle thereafter with cold wetly the method several times. When the area is cooled down you can apply a cream that contains Aloe Vera. These creams also have a soothing and cooling effect. Finally apply sunscreen with an extra high sun factor and cover this part of your body with a T-shirt, long trousers or socks depending on where your sunburn is.

I have taken the freedom of copying the sunscreen roles from the Norwegian Cancer Society:

1. The sun gives happiness and excess if you have the proper respect.
2. Know your own and your kids skin type. The lighter the skin, the more easy you will get burned.
3. You get easier burned with winter pale skin.
4. Apply high sunscreen factor and apply it every second hour.
5. Stay away from the sun at noon when it is at its strongest. You will also get a tan under a parasol and with little clothes on.
6. Apply sunscreen frequently when you are sweating or bathing.
7. Protect the children. Apply extra high sunscreen factor. Do not let them play in the sun without clothes on.
8. The solarium is not recommended. Recent research states that the UVA-radiation gives higher risk for skin cancer.
